Claude Lorrain Here you'll find a collection of mezzotint prints, gems under all circumstances! The master is none less than Claude Lorrain (whose actual name was Claude Genée). His fame as an artist is legend. He is well known and needs little introduction. His paintings were etched masterfully by another great artist: Richard Earlom, who had specialized in the most royal of print arts: the mezzotint. The result is the "Liber Veritatis", or "The Book of Truth", consisting of over 200 etchings of superb quality in sepia (brown ink) which gives them a touch of color without being colorful. And a third quality name adds to the supperior craftmanship, that of Mr. Boydell, the printer who has never let any print or book of less than the highest standards leave his famous publishing company. Claude Genée was a native of the Lorraine and later adopted this fact to be his trade mark name was born in 1600. As a young man he moved to Rome and hardly ever left the eternal city until he died in 1682. He soon became one of the most important landscape painters. His artwork was soon appreciated and bought by aristocratic circles which enabled Claude to live comfortably. We are happy to have, after years of vain attempts, been able to acquire a series from this important collection which we show here for you to enjoy and, if you wish, to purchase. Most of the prints are in very good condition. Some, however, have some spotting, a few have miniscule creases or other non-disturbing blemishes normal to an antiquity of well over 200 years.
