“Martius" (Month of March - astrologically: Aries) Anonomous (German) copper etching from a series of 12 astrological months. This one “Aries". Ca. 1650Aries in upper right corner. Text below in German, a four-line rhyming poem.. about Aries and the fisherman laying down his loot. Print is clean with strong impression. A few scatches in the copper plate show insignificantly in the upper part of the print. It had probably been part of an album, because along the edges remain strips of added paper. No title. Harbor with landing fisherman and a a lively fish market. Latin text underneith print: Squammigerum genus hic, gelido sus gnegite capte - Venales prostant fora per Venalia Pisces. Very classical anonymous copper etching, most likely by Marten de Vos. Ca. 1580. Print is reduced to image. Lower right corner missing. Was probably published in a sequence. This print bearing nr. 47 in left corner. Ink writing on reverse side (scatched out). Very strong impression. 6.6 x 21.2 cm (2.6 x 8.3"). $ 180.00 Order Nr. FISHING8809 |
