Ohne Titel. Neu-Rheinstein, Burg Rheinstein, ehemals Vautsberg genannt.

Gouachierte Aquatinta.

*****

No Title. Neu-Rheinstein, Burg Rheinstein, earlier Vautsberg.

Gouached Aquatinta. Eggwhite highlights. Fine painting quality.

Aquatintiert by Rudolf Bodmer (1805-1841) after Johann Adolf Lasinsky (1808-1871).
Lasinsky was one of the most esteemed landscape painters of the 19th Century, His views
of the Rhine were famous. Bodmer was a talented aquatint artist.who put Lasinsky's paintings to paper.
Excellent colorists used gouache coloring with egg white highlights to make such magnificent compositions.

This print is a notble example. It is outlined by a black inkl ine und a spaced gold line and then
mounted on brown paper, possibly in an album as a travel souvenir. A rare beauty.

Very good condition. On the reverse side is the name of the artist written with pencil.

Bingen - Trechtingshausen. - "Rheinstein"

Anonymous steel engraving with stunning. Gouache hand coloring.

Published by Zabern. Mainz, 1847

Sitting on a rock above the River Rhein (Rhine) the castle ãRheinstein" was built in the 14th century. The castle had, like most age-old castles, a varied and changeful history. In 1823 the castle (it was a ruin by that time) was purchased by Friedrich Wilhelm Ludwig von Preussen (a Prussian prince). It was restored between 1825 and 1829. The castle stayed in Royal Prussian possession until 1953, when Princess Barbara Irene of Prussia tried to sell it and was taken by potential buyer who turned out to be crook. He took much of the movable interior and sold it before he disappeared (a Wikipedia entry). In 1953 the castle was purchased by a private buyer and remains since in private family possession.

The print was published in an album of Vues on the River Rhine. The prints in this album were all trimmed and fitted into a printed frame surrounded by a bordure.

Very good condition, especially pretty: The gouache hand coloring. The black is background and not part of image.

Speyer. - "Kreisstadt Speyer". Title on the base of archway "Rhein-Kreis"

Copper etching. Very attractive and well executed original hand color

From the series:

"Das Königreich Bayern in seinen acht Kreisen" (The eight districts of the Kingdom of Bavaria"

By Georg Lommel and Gottfried Bauer

Edition: Ca. 1900

When looking historically at the City of Speyer, we have to realize that Speyer, although geographically distant, belonged to Bavaria between 1816 and 1837. This is the reason why Spey is a part of this series of Bavarian districts and their capitals.

Under a classical archway a group of people (rural and city folk) dressed in Biedermeier costumes of ca. 1835.

Behind the group, in the background, a general view of the City of Speyer

Koblenz - Lahnstein - "Schloss Stolzenfels"

Anonymous steel engraving with stunning original gouache hand coloring.

Published by Von Zabern

Mainz, 1847

The Zabern publication of views of the River Rhein had all images trimmed to fit into a decorative bordure, onto which the original prints were then mounted.

The view shows the chateau from behind. The view goes across the river Rhein (Rhine) well into the moth and the run of the River Lahn.

The original castle of Stolzenfels was built in the 13th century, by the arch bishop pf Trier. Changing historical events had the castle, amended, destroyed, rebuilt, added to over the centuries. Towards the end of the 17th century Stolzenfels was a mere ruin and remained in the sad state. In Napoleonic times the ruin was in the possession of the nearby City of Koblenz. Prince Frederic of Prussia began with the restoration of the ruin. The restoration was completed in 1842.

Very good condition. Excellent gouache hand color. The black is background and not part of image,

After the drawing by Johann Ludwig (Louis) Bleuler (1792-1850)

Published by l. Bleuler. Schaffhausen, ca. 1840

Incredibly beautiful aquatint of the castle belonging, then, to Prince Frederic of Prussia (1794-1863)

Located in the left side of the River Rhein (Rhine) opposite the confluence of the Lahn River. The wide view from the castle goes to the castle of Lahneck at the pojunt of confluence of the Rivers Lahn and Rhein.

The original castle was built in the 13th century, by the archbishop of Trier.
