“Vera effigies et delineatio Insulae Ascenscio nuncupatae sitae in altitudine 8 graduum ad austrum lineae aequinoctialis". The island of Ascension in the Atlantic. Copper etching by Baptista a Deutecum for Jan Huygen van Linschoten's voyages, published by Theodor de Bry in Frankfurt between 1597 and 1633. Outstanding hand coloring. This print of the island of St. Helena was published in 1601. Marvellous Renaissance view of this island in the Atlantic shown from three different sides. This print has rich adornment of Renaissance cartouches, flying fish, birds, windroses and six big sail ships. Very attractive print. Map has a hardly visible vertical centerfold. Outstanding hand coloring. This print of the island of St. Helena was published in 1601. Marvellous Renaissance view of this island in the Atlantic which gained attention centuries later when Napoleon Bonaparte was exiled there from 1815 until his death in 1821. The island is shown in this etching from three different sides. This print is rich in decorative cartouches, ships, and windroses. Simply beautiful! And very rare! Map has folds to fit book size. "Virginiae Item et Floridae Americae Provinciarum nova Descriptio". Copper etching in attractive modern hand coloring by Jodocus Hondius. Amsterdam, (1606), 1628. This very important map of the South-East of the United States of America has become quite rare and is much sought among collectors. The area shown extends from Virginia (Chesapeak Bay "Chesepioock Sinus") to northern Florida. Hondius followed the John White Virginia map and fathered following maps of the area by Blaeu and Janssonius. Vignettes include Native Americans and their settlements, "Indians" in a canoe, a wind rose, sailship and sea monster and a Renaissance cartouche with indication of latitude. Wide margins. Rich coloring, clean except for some age spotting in margins. A few insignificant tears along edges. Reenforced centerfold with some thin paper in lower fold.
