Nuremberg, 1737-1745 (published beyond Weinmann's death

Weinmann, a pharmacist, who lived in Regensburg, Germany, was a pioneer in color printing. Weinmann's work on plants is one of the most stunning and complete Iconographias: eight volumes with over 1000 pages! He was one of the first , who printed his copper etchings in color. In his time it was impossible to do color printing as we are used to. So he had artists finish the etchings with very accurate and beautiful colors.

The title is written by hand, by Fitch ?, one of the best botanical artists of his time. At the top of
the page is the number "84" also written by hand.

The print is possibly a test print for one of the botanical works of the time.

Since the print was once framed, there is a lighter area around the
outside of the page. A few scattered tiny spots. Browning of margin edges.
