Aquatinta in India ink in sepia color by artist monogramed C.M. (Carlo Molinari)

After the painting by Giulio Romano (1499-1546). Actually: Giulio di Pietro Gianuzzi

This piece of art, probably from a wall or ceiling fresco shows how Hercules mastered the first first of 12 tasks posed to him by King Eurystheos. If he would master all 12 tasks he would be accessed to the Olymp. The Nemean Lion had so thick a skin, that he could not been wounded. After Hercules had tried to kill the Lion with his club, and failed, Hercules strangled it, as is shown on this aquatinta.

Ohne Titel. Herkules erdrosselt den Nemeischen Löwen, die erste von zwölf Aufgaben des Herkules, die er bewältigen muss, um in den Olymp einzuziehen.

Der Nemersche Löwe galt als unverwundbar, weil sein Fell so dick war, dass keine Waffe ihm schaden konnte. Deshalb erdrosselte Herkules den Löwen.

Titel folgender Text: É Wohnete in Eden ein Sohn Cynarce, eines Königs

von Cypro (Zypern), denen mit den er mit Myrrtha seiner leiblichen

Tochter, aber unwissend gezeuget. Venus hat ihn wegen seiner Schönheit

voraus geliebet. Als er aber auf der Jagd von einem wilden Schwein mit

dem Zahn in die Scham verwundet worden, dass er sterben müssen, hat ihn

Venus lange Zeit beweinet und zuletzt in ein Adonisblümlein verwandelt".

In der mythologischen Erzählung wurde jeder vergssene Blutstropfen des sterbenden Adonis ein Adonisröslein.

In der Darstellung in diesem Stich trägt Adonis einen Krans aus Adonisröslein.

Der Stich mit der Seitennummer 88 stammt aus einem uns unbekannten Buch.

Linke und rechte Margen sind erweitert. Teilweise leicht fleckig.

Published ca 1633.

The imaage is in very fine condition. Unfortunately a small piece of the lower left corner is
missing and the corner has repairs.. Margins are narrow.
On the reverse side in the lower left corner are montage rests from an early time.
