ALGERIA The following sequence of 24 views of Algeria originates from Adolphe Otth's travel observations in Algeria. He was the designer and lithographer for this astounding series which were published by J. F. Wagner at Berne, Switzerland.Ca 1850 as “Esquisses africaines, dessinées pendant un voyage à Alger". The total series has 30 views. Unfortunately we are missing 6 of them. The plates are clean, have wide margins, their modern hand coloring is exquisite. Some plates have general age toning, others are white in margins. The general condition of this scarce and very attractive series is mostly very good. On most prints margins are a bit wrinkly, which however, is hardly disturbing the general impression of these splendid views, especially when considering that much of the margins will be covered by mattings. (Other faults if any are mentioned individually. Plate size: 31,5 x 35 cm 12.4 x 13.8" Prices and image sizes are given below each lithograph.
