Superb view of Lago Maggiore from Santa Caterina del Sasso in Leggiuno across the lake. At the foot of Santa Caterina del Sasso to the right we enjoy a very detailed bird's eye view onto Reno. To the left of the erimite monastery we can see Arolo and Lido di MonValle and Ispra. Looking across the lake we can see from the left: Solcio, Lesa, Belgirate, la Sacca, Isola Bella, Isola Superiore, Isola Madre, Stresa, L'isole Boromee, Baveno,San Bernardino Verbano, Suna, Pallanza, Verbania, Intra, Selasca. A dream come true panorama with the backdrop of snow-covered Alpine mountains in the distance.

The aquatint has two vertical divisions which are laid down on narrow strips of linen connecting the three parts of the etching. The original gouache hand-coloring with its eggwhite-hightening gives this panoramic view of Lago Maggiore its exquisity.

Nola lies east of Naples at the foot of Mt. Vesuvius. The Roman general Marcus Claudius Marcellus fought back the attacks of Hannibal here three times.

Very interesting copper engraving ca 1780. It shows the old Nola in relation to the then present Nola in the upper right of the image. On the left side is a list of the old and then present monuments. The old monuments are temples and amphitheaters of Roman times. Numbers correspong to locations on image. In the upper right is a windrose.
